This has been a forbidding wine, but more age and a three-hour decant helped to break down the woody exoskeleton. Very dark. Minty aroma. Still more structure than fruit. I don't know if it's ever going to blossom, but it has at least reached a state of drinkability.

The masses assembled at our dinner table went nuts for this wine. It starts with a blast of smoky tobacco, then follows with a silky texture, floral flavors, enlivened by a dose of crunchy acidity. No oak. Great with the food (duck stuffed with leeks and chestnuts).

In recent years, I have transitioned more to Burgundy varietals (mostly Pinot Noir, but some Chardonnay too), and away from the "big" reds. While I still like a good Cabernet or Syrah with my steak or other rich foods, for most other occasions, I prefer to sip Pinot as my "go to" varietal. Enjoy!
