This is a lower score than prior ratings, but that only reflects an adjustment I've made in my scoring approach. I was succumbing to "rating inflation" where everything was jammed into the 85-98 range. Wrong. I've been adjusting this.
This is a fine wine, not noticeably better than when I last had a bottle last fall. But, if on a plateau, it enjoys a fine view! This is a solid Tuscan blend that works wonderfully with food. In last night's case, a white bean soup and kale salad. Restrained fruit and tannins, very well blended at this point.
Great QPR. Versatile wine. A little flat until paired with assertive, spicy food. Last night it was an Asian-themed chicken, pork, veggie, rice dish with a fair amount of spice/heat. The chile-based foods really enhance the wine and pulls out pineapple/melon/pear flavors.
Excellent wine; great QPR. I'm tasting lots of syrah, maybe nothing but syrah. Earth-leather nose, dark fruit well integrated and balanced. We enjoyed this one with a roast chicken (which worked surprisingly well), but the interesting pairing was with a scalloped potato in a light cream sauce with jalapeno and herbs. The wine worked wonderfully with the spices. Another writer mentioned that this is good for lighter foods. While it complemented the roast chicken, I think this would be great with southern French dishes -- cassoulet, Provencal flavors, etc. In sum, a versatile wine that can pair with a range of favors.
