  • 1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

III. 3 bottles Christmas Eve from family cellar. Tasted all to make sure consistent and acceptable to serve. PnP. Excellent but unexpectedly preferred the 76 Ridge Monte Bello the following night. Greatly enjoyed. No formal tasting notes.

  • 2005 Château Clerc Milon

In the zone. Greatly enjoyed. Medium bodied and floral upon double decant with little sediment. Re-corked post decant, traveled an hour, kept in bottle for 5 hours and decanted for an hour (focused on not having sediment ruin it before knowing little there). Didn’t need more, maybe less but lasted several hours until gone with no decline. Questioned whether PnP could have been appropriate given floral but didn’t try; plan was set. Tanins resolved. Was really excellent. Agree with spices, herbs, refined finish and good for another 10 years (at least), hopefully close to double that if 33%/33%/33%. Very strong year on left bank and Pauillac.

  • 1976 Ridge Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Bello

This was excellent and better than the 1989 Pichon-Longueville Baron the previous night. Highly underrated (self) and impressed it has lasted so long so well. Can’t imagine improving so suggest drinking if you have. But really impressed. Know Napa has it in it to last this long but still. And has to be very, very few and far between that can. Almost 40 years….. wow. No formal notes. Too busy celebrating with family.
