  • 2004 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges

Just brooding in the typical Gouges way, on a green vintage. One could feel the depth, despite the vintage, but in my opinion, this unmistakable Gouges does not serve well on a vintage such as '04. This is an exemple where I feel the admiration for the maker, but did not enjoy the bottle which is some distance from what I cherish of Burgundy. (it was rather bitter, with depth, full of earth but not enough fruits left and yet one could feel the profound potential in that direction... a weird profile indeed) A couple of years ago, from the same maker, same vintage but Les Porrets St Georges was more enjoyable, for sure. Cheers,

  • 2009 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Charmes

Rather flat... and not much life left.
Sad but this is part of our wine passion right?

  • 2011 Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc

Just 10 days ago, I had a Dom. Leflaive Chevalier Montrachet 2007 which was simply flat... and not life in it. Then my friends really did not wish to take another risk so they ordered a Batard 2018 which was simply way too young. These things happen, we all know it is part of our passion. Tonight I opened this with my wife, without too much expectations and it blew my mind. It was splendid with citrus, honey and splendid energy worthy of a Puligny Grand Cru. The aromas were so fresh of stony, citrus, honey, flowers as one could wish and the texture was like an intense but gorgeous spring sun shine and above qualities singing in chorale with perfect sync and balance. What a beautiful exemple of this winery can do! Well... I am aware, this doesn't happen too often, but the higher your expectation the bigger the disappointment can be, and so can the opposite. Glorious surprise. Cheers,

6/28/2017 5:16:00 PM - Hello Genghis, Many thanks and I very much enjoyed your notes as well! I find my wines are a bit too much from the same region and look forward to looking up some of the gems from your notes. Cheers, SW

4/15/2016 4:26:00 AM - Hi Esuarp, Unfortunately I haven't had 'Les Folatieres' from Jadot yet... But I had about 3 weeks ago two stunning 2003 bottles one was 'Les Folatieres' from Pierre Yves Colin Morey and the other 'Corton Charlemagne' from Dom. Pavelot. Both of them were splendid and in no way worrisome for the vintage. Of course I have had a few '03 which were pre oxed, but these two were certainly surprised us all. The only '09 I have yet opened was St Aubin En Remilly from Pierre Yves Colin Morey, and absolutely pristine it was, so I wouldn't be too worried, if you have a proper cellar. This is my humbly opinion only. Cheers,

1/27/2015 9:35:00 AM - Hi there, I noticed you have the 2009 Puligny "Les Folatieres" from Jadot in your cellar..so do I. I haven't touched it yet and was wondering whether you happen to've had a bottle in recent times and what you thought of it? Any thoughts on how much time it has left? Lots of people are a little concerned about the longevity of the 2009 white Burgundy. Thanks for any thoughts you'd like to share! Phil
