This took about 3 hours in the decanter to come together. We actually gave up on it and opened another bottle after a couple hours, as it was still very acidic. Then all of a sudden, it came together and felt like we'd been invited to a medieval monastery by some monks. Had it with a 2020 Gonon Les Iles Feray and we were hard pressed to choose: one like a puppy, exploding with interesting flavors and the other simpler but wise with tranquility and age.

I've been a fan of this Crozes since trying the 1985 vintage back in the mid 80s. I've been a little concerned whether the wines made under Frey ownership had moved away from the style I enjoyed but I think this 2010 is starting to show that evolution that I so enjoy.

P’d-n-P’d. bottle and cork were perfect, but the wine shows a lot of age, with few primary characteristics evident. Still, shows red at the rim and has thick tears. Nose of prune, shoe polish, autumn leaves, leather. Tannins mostly gone, glassy texture, with an entirely tertiary palate. Walnut finish. Wish it had a bit more primary fruit. 5-11-14-7: 87/100. Reading other notes after posting my own, let me add that I agree with Grizzly’s note and another which noted porcinis; indeed porcini mushrooms dominate the nose like no other wine I’ve tasted.

I’m not big into Rhone wines, and this is falling outside of my usual tasting vocabulary. Smells old, like well worn leather shoes, tar, smoking jackets, and dried fruit. Medium acidity, tannins still a bit grippy. Palate shows echoes of purple and blue fruit, dark mineral and soil, and a medium finish reflecting the musty character of the nose. Very good

Popped/poured. Better than my last bottle two months ago. Good color and nose, palate could be better. 5-12-15-7: 89/100.
