Dinner at Formento's (Chicago, IL): Served blind. 10% abv. I really didn't know what to make of this wine. Quite frankly, it didn't really taste like riesling to me. It had the right sweetness and aged notes, but the acidity here was really lacking and confusing. The fruit profile was yellow and had a waxy characteristic. On the other hand, despite the relatively higher levels of alcohol in this wine, this never ended up too heavy, so I left this with a big question mark. But as to whether or not this was good? Not really.

Weekend of food and wine; 4/13/2017-4/16/2017 (Las Vegas): 89-91 This one went back and forth for me. Lots of concentration, powerful nose with petrol/plastic as a major player along with sweeter and riper orchard fruit. Palate was nice but there was a metallic-ish bitter note near the finish that kind of disrupted the flow of the wine for me. Otherwise very nice aged riesling.

Rieslingfeier - BYOB Main Event (Rouge Tomate, NYC): Had a quick taste - seemed musty and odd - out of focus with odd flavors - did not like it. But I didn't have a lot of time to sit with it, and did not get a full note or scores.

A bit past it for me, but no question this has plenty of life in it. Lots of mineral, honey and botrytis notes but just not enough zippy fruit.
