Rare to come across aged Sauvignon Blanc, especially with 20 years of age. This 2002 Silex is complex and vibrant, bright acidity and plenty of fruits left for a 20 year old. One notable aroma with aged Sauvignon Blanc is a waxy/ plastic note. Waxy yellow orchard fruits, white flowers, smokey wood spices (Jean-Claude toned down the new oak to 25% in 2002). While it’s lovely to drink them mature, I don’t see how it improves with further ageing. (91/100)

Bouquet like Rav Les Clos of the same vintage, ie white flowers, lemon-lime and just a hint of gingerale. Well-made wine, probably not at maturity yet. Full of energy, mid-palate grip and no hint of secondary but all elements in harmony and smooth on the tongue. Finishes long.

Three hours in decanter. With the beautiful golden color in the glass the overwhelming ripe fruit in the nose comes back in the mouth. A round, ripe wine, sufficient acidic background, and a long finish.

(Didier Dagueneau Silex) Bright canary yellow color; a little oxidized, oak nose; tasty, balanced, tart lemon and tart grapefruit palate with minerality; medium-plus finish 92+ pts.

What a power, intense, complex, vibrant, mineral, long. An amazing expression of Silex after more than 20 years.
