Probably well past it’s prime and lighter bodied than most CNdP but very enjoyable early night wine. Lovely mouth feel, very smooth and remnants of dark cherry fruits. Veery balanced, relevant wine. Can only imagine what it would have been like in its prime ….20 years ago 😇🍷😇 A lovely 40 year old experience.

Smells like iron, blood, iodine, black cherry. Braised beef rosemary jus palate, scabby. You ever eat your scabs as a kid? Meat and soil, lots of structure remains on the back end. Lovely, to plan a dinner around for sure.

Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chicago, IL): Tasted double blind alongside the 1998. Meaty black fruit with savory spice throughout. Red and black cherry with leather and meat braised slowly with mushroom. Very charming. Knowing the pair were from the same place, I initially (mistakenly) thought Burgundy.

Who would have thunk this wine, from an unheralded and now fairly old vintage, would show quite so well? Sweaty, and still vibrant red fruits with meaty flavors. Well-resolved, thoroughly enjoyable, and a great surprise.

Not reputed to be a great year, but a great winemaker has succeeded again. Almost Burgundian in its balance and lovely mouthfeel. I've been drinking VT for five decades and it still amazes me how they can turn out, given that they can be pretty hard when young (and even when not so young).
