  • Holy Cow! Opened alongside a late 60s 6 Año white and a 1991 Bosconia Gran Reserva.

The '64 had an element of freshness that the others did not. Classic Riojo nose of dried fruit and a little barnyard/funk. Pallate was pure freshness and dried cherries. Blind, I would have guessed it was only a few years old. How can this thing be 51+ years!

Plenty of structure and acid on the back to carry this for a long while. Compared to the 1991s we've had recently, this is pure muscle and needs a bit more time. I'd guess 10-20 years or more. Glad there are 2 more in the cellar!

  • Again, another pity; Otherwise, an aged and performing Tondonia would've floated a few boats... Nose was somewhat off or maderised. Still arguably (this should never have been the case with a great Tondonia) drinkable, with some autumn leaves, soil/earth on the palate. Wished this were otherwise, as aged Tondonias have always been a treat...

  • Fill was good, cork was soft, wine was bad...

  • Great luck with mature wine weekend.... Following on the heals of an '89 Marcoux VV, '85 domaine de chevalier blanc and an '89 lynch bages... A beautiful wine and a testament to Tempranillo blends... Wow... Cherries, dried cranberry, raspberry, dried sage, brilliant high toned acidity, sweet tannins... This wine was opened, not decanted, and enjoyed over 3 hours. Color was medium garnet and the persistence of flavor was remarkable... How can this wine be 50+ years old? How can I be? Rhetorical questions without doubt... By the way, the SQN in the abstract wasn't to shabby either...

  • PnP. Drank as part of a 1964 Lopez de Heredia horizontal (Bianco, Bosconia, Tondonia). This was the least of my favorites, but still good. Great color.
