Bright garnet in color. Muted aromas were not promising. Palate very interesting: cassis and vanilla with a dusting of cocoa and some herbal notes. Soft and medium bodied.

My first blend of this sort, which I popped and decanted for about 2 hours. Dark, translucent pomegranite-like color with a bit of syrah-spiced cherry, plumb and young applewood on the nose (which I think stems from the chardonnay). Medium-bodied with tart, almost sour cherry and dark pomegranite/watermelon flavors in the mouth. There is an unpleasantly sharp acidity that cuts through the palate, so it seems a bit discombobulated with the touch of heat that takes over on the finish. Overall I think this is an engagingly difficult wine to score...on the one-hand I like the layers of flavors, and the particular fruit and spice profiles involved, but I just don't like the way they meet in the mid-palate and mesh at the finish. It's almost like all of the pieces of the puzzle are not here. This is my first Flowers wine, and I haven't the slightest clue whether or not time will piece this one together. What I can tell you, though, is that I only had one of these Perennials, and I am not running to find more.
