Bordeaux first-growth lunch: Deep golden in colour, thought this was from the '80s. While this was not my preferred style of white, thought this had enough tension to be interesting. Superb aromatics with some sherry notes without being too distracting; a waxy, oily texture with some grapefruit, marmalade notes on the palate. The oxidative element came and went in waves, but still had plenty of life. Thought this could have passed off as an old grand cru Burgundy.

Golden color, honeyed nose, honeycomb and ripe fruit. Steely on palate with angular acidity, mineral and tasted like a matured burgundy white. Some wood spice noted at finish, but quite lovely overall.

Deep yellow. Some transient oxidative notes but then incredible interest and complexity. High acid, lemony fruit atop the medium bodied but vanillin textured Semillon component with herbs and minerality. Integrates well, excellent length. Oxidation crept in at the end after about 90 minutes, which suggests that this is at or at least reaching the end of its life span.

[Commanderie Alleno dinner] Very sweet and ripe nose, honeyed and very perfumed with exotic floral and somewhat tropical aromas, seems quite advanced, but this vintage is, in my recollection, a bit odd, having almost oxidized characteristics right from the start; quite citric in the mouth with a somewhat thinly textured layer of fruit; a bit sharp and lacking the nuance and depth of the better years for this property. La Mission Haut Brion; 3/9/2012-3/10/2012 (Burg Staufeneck): Sherry, oxidized notes, this is no longer good.
