  • First one for me. Can taste the tradition, can taste the potential greatness that has it in the Class of Top 5, but can't yet taste the fruit, hiding behind the acid. Way too young still. Will try something with a bit more age, assuming I can find something affordable.

  • A very elegant Brunello, this came after 2 Ridge Zins so the palate was a bit fatigued. Nevertheless, the class stood out. On the blacker spectrum of Brunello - dark cherries. Fine tannins and good acid. This beauty should last though it can be drunk with at least an hour’s decant

  • Brunello Masterclass at Wine Library, Sydney. Same bracket as Poggio di Sotto 2015. Slightly darker ruby. Nose: fruit not as pronounced - berry compote, rhubarb, more savoury. Palate: more mouthweight, tannins are a bit more evident. Like the Poggio di Sotto it is still too young but also excellent.

  • Dinner at NVNA. Tasted blind. Drank in Zalto Universal.
    Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with thin garnet rim. Legs.
    Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of cool menthol, licorice, dark morello cherries, stony minerals. Developing.
    On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5% doesn't feel like it), silky medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red morello cherries, crunchy stony minerality, menthol, licorice that gets very sweet with more air, and ending off with light herbs and balsamic bitterness. Long finish.
    Very good quality. Exuding elegance and very clearly Burgundian in nature. Still quite primary now. Don't touch for a few more years!

  • Brunello di Montalcino 2013 tasting (Restaurant Vineum, Rotterdam, NL): Tasted blind. Relatively youthful appearance, just starting to brown at the edges; classic Sangiovese nose but quite stalky, roses; the palate is slender but the firm tannins do not stick out in any way; the finish is quite hot and alcoholic. Not sure about this one, but it should turn out well.
