my third magnum out of 4 I bought on my visit to Fisher, from a total of 400 magnums produced for this inaugural vintage. Much softer now, although still a little alcoholic on the palate. Very fragrant nose, showing woody, cedar nots, with a little mint, eucalyptus, and plenty of fruit. Sweet on the palate. Just shows the benefits of cellaring wine for them to develop.

Consumed with lamb shank drizzled with plum sauce, potatoes and green beans. This wine had a very sweet smell when first opened. The first taste made me glad we opened it 2.5 hours before the party. The tannins dominated the dark fruit when first tasted. However, you could taste the plum and fresh blackberry behind the tannins. We split the magnum into a decanter and it really took off with the first taste with dinner. Every glass just kept getting better. While I doubt I will ever see this wine in this vintage again, it would certainly be worth getting again.

typical Cali Syrah...very sweet nose, toffee, prunes, coconut butter, very alcoholic nose at first. A bit of floral notes later.
