Was this opened a bit early? Infanticide? Nah. This wine is rolling. Although, in another year or two, I think it will be rolling a little differently. The syrah that tastes like darker berries and some herbal fungal seems to be more preferable to me than the syrah that tastes like ground up ribeye and excrement. Personal preference, yes, but I can also appreciate the other side. This is a dark wine. Roasted black fruits, blueberry, purple fruit, iodine. The middle goes to an herbal influence of some sort, but finishes definitively youthful sweet fruit backbone with a ton and a half of pepper. This seemed to be the downfall to one of the people in the group (and unfortunately was the one who opened it). Yes, there is quite a bit of black pepper on the finish as well as very sharp acidity and roasted tannin with a little bit of caramel. I am very pleased with the outcome of this wine. I think he wants to trade me for his other six bottles that he has, so I just might take him up on that offer! I do feel like this one is definitely a baby, and has another 10 years ahead of it with proper cellaring. Until now, the coach insignia is the only wine I've had from Fisher, and I have been quite pleased with that. Besides the other six or so of these that I will probably acquire in the next couple of weeks, I think I need to check out other offerings for sure!

Infanticide, yes, but with a purpose - open a bottle and taste early to decide whether to buy more while it may still be available. I’m not a big Syrah fan - a lot of mediocre, at best, Syrahs out there - but I really enjoy the Fisher Syrahs. The 2016 is young but delicious - a slight bit jammy at the outset at this stage, but not in a way that masks the great fruit. Dark, with a great aroma, and a long, full palate - this is very nice now with some air time, and is going to be a fun wine to drink with a bit of cellar time. I won’t be surprised to see my rating increase over time.
