Clear deep ruby/purple; clean medium nose of fresh blackberries, vanilla and brambleberry; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of cocoa; medium plus finish; still quite young with room to develop - drink now or in 10 years; Penfolds LCBO dinner

Has been a few years since I tasted Penfolds, I left Australia last time with this love/hate relationship. Well I am back after 5 years and little has changed, Penfolds makes very good wine but not Wow wine like the critics make out to believe.
Very glossy, polished with tons of black fruit on the nose of blackberries, cassis, dusty cacao, cedar and vanilla notes. The palate is quite restrained at this stage, and I opened this bottle 2 days prior! Dark black fruit, cacao, vanilla and savoury spices fill the palate along with dusty yet firm tannins, a polished and glossy mid-palate finishing long, velvety and slightly spicy. This will age very nicely, 15-20 years without breaking a sweat.

Penfolds Online tasting: Inky dark in colour. Muted on the nose. Palate is full bodied and ripe with a real depth of flavour. Quite tannic, but there is nice freshness. Long finish. Dark currant, dark plum fruit. Excellent without getting to "wow".

Dark ruby in the glass, the 2020 Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz showcases an intriguing nose of blue fruits, pepper, perhaps even a touch of floral or herbal notes, without the overt vanilla often found in more oak-driven wines. The palate is bold, loaded with dark fruits and chocolate, and the tannins are substantial yet well-integrated. The finish is long and savory, resonating with sophisticated notes of leather and cigar box. Leave this one for at least 5+ years for more complexity to develop.

Clearly too young, but all the good stuff is there. Intense dark berries, pepper, touch of blood. Great warm climate Syrah with a long live ahead!
