  • Lush and forward. Medium complexity. Fully mature. I would have scored it higher if it wasn't 15.6% abv...

  • Healthy looking medium crimson with a clear rim. Ripe and open nose features baked cherries with savory garrigue, sweet and savory spices. Soft, ripe and full bodied on the palate with deep ripe waves of cherry pie, Luxardo and plenty of spice. Good acidity and a sweet, ripe viscosity lead to a warm and satisfying finish. At 15.8 abv this is best enjoyed in the 60-68f range. Drink soon.

  • Four hour decant. Served chilled. Great WTSO bargain @ $26. Cherries, spice, no heat - long finish. Still has time in bottle - no rush to drink up. I last drank one of the bottles in 2010 and this has improved a bit in the seven years. More of a "cherry" flavor than the "strawberry" on the previous bottle.

  • Much younger looking than the other CA 04 Pinot opened this has an unfiltered garnet hue. Nose of dried cherries, oak spice, allspice, campfire, underbrush, anise, red rock, blue/purple florals. Medium + on the palate - glycerolly, likely from the + alcohol, which doesn't manifest much heat. Fruit is a bit stewed on the palate, but with tart cherry acidity. Un-California-esque, there is a chance this develops more tertiary character that moves it up a notch in a Burgundy aging way, but it doesn't quite feel like that is going to happen from here. Complex and interesting. 90-91(+?)

  • Cola city! In fact this Cali-noir should be reclassified as a Cali-cola/noir (that's an unfortunately common classification of Cali-noir that just plain out OVERDIDIT and instead of creating the bionic man created a Frankenstein!).

Another over the top and then some. Perhaps back in 04/05 they hadn't learned yet (the Dark Ages - as opposed to the Light Ages?). Whatever.

And who said these grapes weren't ripe? Apart from the extremely pronounced flavor of cola, there is the bite from 15.8% (and as many of you know, that's only what they report - not necessarily the real level at all...) and not a lot else. Medium weight (a little heavier than a Coke or Pepsi with taste like a Pepsi more than a Coke).

    I am kind at 85
