This was delightful tonight with lots of penetrating dark blue and black fruit, earthy sous bois , some subtle Asian spice undertones and firmish, chalky tannins on the mid length finish. Really nice now but I think this would still benefit from a few years in the bottle, if I can resist them for that long.

Dinner with Blair Pethel (Chicago, IL): While the palate of this was quite nice, the nose here I found a little stinky with barnyardy reduction. There are also some light spice tones on the nose as well. Despite a generous helping of fruit, this didn't feel as expressive as some of the other red wines tonight. This was tightly coiled, with the fruit veering a bit more towards the darker side of the spectrum. Likely one of the wines to benefit the most from some age.

Ripe dark fruit, rather dense and powerful for a Volnay, some earth and leather, with a stern finish. Might need a few more years to round into form.

Thursday Cellar Visits in Burgundy - Lafarge, Lamarche, Château De La Tour and Dublère (Cote d'Or): Barrel tasting at the domaine. Slightly reduced nose so tough to assess. Flavors are bright and nicely spiced with very elegant style and very good length. I'm optimistic here.
