Nose of strawberry, black cherry, anise. Nose is quite delicious.
On palate, black cherry and sour cherries, very slightly jammy, oak tannins, sort of tobacco and cigar box. Slightly hot. Decided to give it a little time out in the glass to aerate somewhat. Body is a bit thinner than I expected from the nose.
After a half hour, was a little less aggressive, though I notice the finish is quite short - tho tasty.
A good value, but I'd probably appreciate just a bit more ripe fruit body.
Postscript: An hour and a half later, this became really delicious. Still had a little bite on the tongue, but this actually improved the finish, which became more spicy and fruity.

A stunningly good wine for $14. This 100% Carignane shows a unique nose of toasted coffee beans, new leather and some blackberry. Low acidity and some nice dark berry and plum elements on the nose with a slightly spicy note at midpalate. Very little tannic influence on the finish. Great both with and without food. I'll definitely add a few more bottles of this to the Italian rack of the cellar.
