  • Decanted off fair amount of fine sediment. From auction, cork in very good condition. Slightly dusty nose. Dark fruit, blackcurrant, with just a bit of earthy barnyard and leather. A bit claret like, not exactly old, but lacking a bit in intensity. Drinking well for a basic Bordeaux of this age, I enjoyed it, but I suspect it is fading. Drink now.

  • A wonderful flash-back to the beginnings of my wine cellar - and a good lesson in Bordeaux longevity. Contrary to what was expected (namely that it was too late to open this bottle) this Pessac, from a good left-bank vintage, proved to be in excellent shape and a real pleasure to drink. Typical slightly floral Pessac nose. Rich, warm palate of lush mature fruit, chocolate, leather, tobacco, clove and toast aromas. A good reminder that in a good vintage a solid Bdx reveals its full potential only after two decades of patience.

  • Shockingly dark red with no signs of bricking. No decant but as it opens it has green bell pepper, tobacco and some hints of red fruit. Mouthful has raspberry, good acidity and is medium to light bodied. The finish has strong tannins. Luckily this is super well preserved and I don’t see it getting better and is likely past its peak. The finish isn’t going to soften more in time for the fruit to be retained. But for a spontaneous pick from my cellar with a leftover filet mignon, this hit the spot!

  • Cooked root vegetables, tart red fruit, herbs and strong sense of minerality. Very fresh and lively for being more than 20 years old. Very good example of mature Bordeaux.

  • Short decant (30 minutes) prior to drinking. Open for business. Tannins are sweet and resolved. Mostly tobacco, tea, sous bois, along with Graves typicity. Not thinned out, and a bit heftier than I expected. Good show for classically styled claret.
