At first it tasted a little oxidized, with some stewed fruit notes. It is definitely past its prime, but after about an hour, it really opened up and showed off its fruit. Obviously more restrained than a young Turley Zin, it was a treat to drink this. Had it alongside a 2006 Turley Howell Mountain Zinfandel Cedarman, and I think this was a little better.

Cork like new. Wine tasted like it was 2 years old. Profound, fresh and alive full flavored and Pesenti to the core. I drank Pesenti before Turley bought the vineyard, after 2.5 hours the wine was still young and fresh. Intoxicated we also opened an 2003 Pesenti. Yikes!!!!

In decline, but not the hot alcoholic disjointed mess I feared this might be. Indeed, while this wine is still a Turley zin and no candidate for any AFWE awards, the 16% ABV remained remarkably well hidden. The nose was redolent of tea and red fruits with a herbal note; on the palate the dominant flavor is roasted strawberries. Tannins are fully resolved but acidity and fruit still keep things in balance. A pleasant surprise; but should be drunk within the coming year.
