Turley zinfandels age extremely well, and it doesn’t surprise me at all that this wine tastes terrific after 17 years. Delicious dried figs and prunes, raspberry preserves, violets, chocolate, apple skin, and sweet tobacco. I’m impressed by the acidic brightness and the still-assertive tannins. This is outstanding wine that is way undervalued. This wine cost me less than $40 at auction, which is ridiculous for a wine of this caliber and this age.

What a surprise. I had stopped drinking my Turley Zins as I find they can be a tough match with the foods I tend to eat, so I have a lot of old ones left. But I had a bottle of this, in the back of my cellar and decided to try it with a sauerbraten type chuck roast. And it was great, with big fruity Zin flavors, and a nice balance between the fruit and acids. Who knew it could last this long? As soon as I opened the bottle you could smell the fruity nose. AND not a stewed fruit to be found, it has really aged well!

(Turley Presenti Zinfandel) #2; COLOR-really nice; NOSE-Big League chew grape gum, hint of clove; TASTE-little undertone of asparagus covered w/ mounds of sugar candy, over-the-top fruit bomb done right; really like the complexity of the mid-palate (reminds me ot a structure of a Cote Rotie), Northern Rhone characteristics w/ lots of fun from Australia; very rich, not for Old World, very solid; RP-90/93; GV-91
