Old, yet not too oxidized. Nose of dark cherries and graphite. Concentrated cherry fruit and gravel. Lacks complexity, but shows off the varietal. A touch of mint and white pepper in the finish. 88

Like a nice Rhone that's had a few years in a quiet cellar, this wine has FINALLY settled down into nice middle aged mellowness.
Its smooth, savory, full of "garigue" - ness (is that even a word??) with smooth tannins and dark fruits nicely integrated and balanced, a nice steak of acidity keeping it real (and not overly leaden, slow, dull and plodding although with 14.2% alcohol tomorrow may bring another side to this beast.....). Deft use of oak (thank you!!).
All in all, a nice Rhone wine made by a most excellent producer in a new world style with the utmost respect for old world traditions....
For those of you still holding this (according to cellar tracker there are still some 110+ bottles in cellars out there) you can confidently start to open and drink and you will not be disappointed. I don't think this is going to get any better but its at a place/plateau that is long and flat so its not going to fall apart anytime soon either.

nice simple wine. Still drinking well and bright, but lacked the length or complexity from a great Ridge wine. Very good with an eclectic mix of food.

brown fringing, some syrah like aromas, bright, soft, and very little fruit. past its prime.

Rich and mouth-filling. Brambly but not fruit driven. Nice Carignane!
