Disgorged 10/21. Mid-gold color. Very good champagne blend of PN 57%, Chard 28% and Meunier 15% with 70% aged in barrels. Good balance between freshness and weight. Floral, citrus, light toast flavor, some leesy notes with crisp acidity but no harshness. Good aperitif wine and you can drink this all day.

Tasted at a merchant event, only brief notes: Fine citrus notes along with yeasty elements. Rather low intensity for now. On the palate dry as a bone despite 5g of residual sugar. A bit of wild acidity.

Root Day - purchased 2011. Dark lemon in the glass. Continuous stream of very small bubbles. Nose is brioche, light yeast, light citrus and mineral. On the palate the toast and brioche hits first with terrific palate cleansing bubbles and medium plus acidity followed by flavours of light mushroom, citrus, salinity and mineral. There’s a beautiful umami element to this wine due to its development. Great way to start off 2024!

(NV MAILLART Platine Champagne) UPDATE: Calbello Rosso I was just informed the Calbello Rosso (from this morning) is the wrong vintage so I'm pulling the offer. We're not in the business of offering wine we know is incorrect so let's let that one go - please do not send order requests to Niki as she is deleting the offer. On to better things... This was supposed to go out this evening but it's a fine substitute for the morning offer and one of my new favorite NV wines. - Jon Rimmerman ******************** Champagne Dear Friends, Fresh off of yesterday's Burghound, this delightful and complex Champagne gives the taster a broad spectrum of flavor for a very low tariff. The NV Platine opens with air contact and layers of nuance peek in and out of the glass over many hours. The noble flavors linger enticingly and the taster is left with an impression of something special. With the price of Champagne approaching absurd levels, it's terrific to see a producer offer his very best NV example for under $40. This wine is very difficult to come by, only 36 cases for the entire US (including restaurants). In addition, it was the highest rated NV example in the report: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a low-priced star among the top-tier of Champagne - it should age beautifully as well, especially for a NV cuvee: NV Nicolas Maillart Brut "Platine" 1er Cru (BH92) EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ9440
