Had with the 1er cru Chaignots 05. This was more four square but an excellent village wine showing some secondary aromas and entering its drinking window. Rating aid based on day two when it was smoother.

This has an abundantly fruity nose that is plenteous in ripe cherry character together with a prominent earthiness. It also has a hint of meaty savouriness which I find rather attractive. It has a demure alcohol level and does not rely on new oak to give it personality – the vines and their location do that just fine. On the palate the tannic structure is very Nuits in character – quite robust with the merest scintilla of greenness. Plenty of that good cherry fruit and a laudable dash of lively acid keep the harmony just fine and there is more than a tinge of earthy complexity which shows especially on the finish. A highly enjoyable village Burgundy, it delivers interest, harmony and refreshment whilst being easy on the wallet. Certainly it’ll keep for at least five years more if you so wish.

Took a couple hours to open up and show nice fruit. Was tannic and closed at first. Nice black fruit and earth with some air.

Closed for most of the night, too bitter. Opening up after 3 hours and fruit emerged. Better in 3 years.
