Pop and poured. This is lovely right now, and drinking better than the bottle I had last year (which I did not note). This guy offers nice aroma of a mash of blackberries and plums, pleasing soil, clove, and that lovely impression of Piedmont earth. The texture on the palate is very very lovely for a Dolcetto. Quite smooth and caressing. If you hold it in the mouth the tannins do still build intensely. It's more enjoyable with just a quick dance across the palate, where it shows more of the clove hints from the nose and nice bits of fruit and wet earth. The finish dials up with a bit of spice, dominated by its soil notes, and some of those darker completed fruits and pleasing old wet leaves on a fall day (not yet decaying). The tannins are still quite drying after all these years, but I think the fruit and other elements are lovely, so now would be the time to drink it before the flavors die off, leaving just a puckeringly dry wine with no flavor. These tannins will last decades more. Glad I let this age 10 years.

Clear deep garnet with very slight rim browning. Brandy, ball plum, braised fennel. Low acids, low tannins. Leather. Short balanced finish. Bottle at Del Posto.

My first bottle tasted several years ago I questioned this wine. Maybe a defective bottle. Since then, every bottle has been very nice. I would definitely buy this again.
