The nose was vibrant, showing chalky minerals, green apple and a hint of citrus. On the palate, there was an attractive clash of sweet versus tart fruit with great balance and flavors of green apple lasting through the mouth-watering finish.

Seems like it has some structure to it in the mouth. It is light and refreshing, going well with food. Squarely good, but not exceptional. Rebuy: maybe.

Bernhard Ott Wine Dinner: Also 12.5% alcohol, but this felt disjointed. One taster asked if the wine had been acidified. I doubt that Bernhard Ott acidifies his wines even in a very warm vintage like 2011, but I don't know.

(Bernhard Ott Grüner Veltliner Faß 4) Very light yellow color; ripe lemon, white jasmine nose; delicate, ripe lemon, tart pear, mineral palate with good texture and balancing acidity; medium-plus finish ($26)
(Ott Grüner Veltliner "Fass 4") ($58.00) Bernhard’s intent is that the “Am Berg” is drunk simply with food, but this step up is riper and interesting in and of itself. It’s three vineyard sites vinified separately and then combined, mostly loess; it shows riper aromas of textbook GrüVe, with marked grip and acidity and a snappiness that seems (but isn’t) phenolic.

Still one of the best apiritifs, clean, light, fresh, but with enough substance.

A bit atypical. Less fruit and more acid than 2010, but perhaps needs some rest, development
