Excellent medium bodied amarone. Prominent cherry, toast, moderate smoke, raisin, and a little bit of baking spice. Seems aged just right to me. A bit of acidity which made it go well with food (including strangely enough, chocolate babka - see BARONFREYA note below), but otherwise soft and smooth on the palate. I’m glad Uncle Louie’s turned me on to Speri wines - they’ve consistently been my favorite Venetos.

dranknthis out on the deck in front of a fire with friends. Color looked deep but it was dark. Nose was like roobios tea leather and plums and dark fruit. Bit more acid than I expected as it warmed up picked up dates and slight hints of Hershey almond chocolate. Finish was tight. Had this with a chocolate babka with few ash cream. Decent match. Enjoyable way to end a night

Beat your 2015 WOTY Dinner: Licorice, blackberry, ash, plum and tea leaves. Sweet fruit upfront but there is a nice savoury element too. Flows well and drinks nicely.

Very much as per previous notes on this wine. Modern styled Amarone, a bit over average, but still not my type of wine. Too much of everything, and with 2009 being such a warm and (over) ripe vintage, it really reflects in wines like this, when I’m not a fan of Veneto wines, especially not passito method made wines, as I miss all transparency, finesse and balance, and find them too much and way overdone, sweet and alcoholic.
