Someone brought this over to a dinner party so I thought I would pop the cork and give it a shot – must admit that this is the first California Merlot I have had in a long time. Bright ruby / garnet. Candied raspberry and cherry nose with a bit of vanilla. Not much depth or nuance, but pleasant. The initial wave of fruit is smooth, though a bit herbal. Unfortunately, the wine falls apart after a few second in the mouth. It just disappears – not tannic, not tart, just nothing. Basically ok, if pretty uninteresting. I don’t know what this costs, but I doubt it will ever make my shopping list. (9)
