Wendouree survey (Chicago, IL): Chunky and structure, without the elegance of the syrah or cabernet. Pleasant enough if a bit foursquare, with the malbec notes making too much of their presence felt here. Darker fruit, with plenty of youthful tannin. Clearly will be more interesting with more years.

I was lucky enough to secure 2 cases of this in allocation. Way too young I know but I always like to drink one (to test if delivered OK) before locking the rest in long term storage. This only really came alive on the 3rd day (as expected for a wine this young that’s built to age). 3rd day: Rich dark berries, black cherries, uplifting thyme, with white pepper finish. Silky smooth with lovely puckering tannins. See the rest of you in 15 years! Something to look forward to.

Dense concentration of luscious fruit. Blackcurrant and blackberry. Incredible tannin structure that scaffolds the wine. It’s a much tighter wine than the straight Malbec and really needs years to get to its peak. Dark red to black in colour and just beautifully balanced. An extraordinary wine; a lesson in good winemaking. Proper long term cellaring will be richly rewarded. Patience really is the key to this.
