  Bought for cooking some braised short ribs. Half the bottle left to drink. For $10, this over-delivers. I’d happily pay $15 for this and I dare to say it’s impossible to find a US produced dry red wine this good at this price. Just a generic fruity nose but the palate has some nice purple fruit, baking spice, and minerality. Has complexity not found in most wines at this price. Short finish and a little grape-y. Still has everything and more you could ask for in a $10 wine. Would happily drink this at a casual backyard barbecue. Well done Penfolds. Impressive.

  From a 375ml bottle. On the nose ripe dark fruit with licorice notes. Medium(+) bodied, very smooth and supple, delivering ripe jammy blackberryish fruit with licorice/mineral notes, gentle and smooth tannic grip and decent acidity. The high alcohol (14,5%) is well hidden. Consistent every vintage.

  Deep purple in color; black cherries, cassis, and graphite on the nose; medium acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like blackberry sauce, sweet tabacco, and a hint of camphor with a long finish. I really like this wine.

  Gosh I haven't had a Koonunga Hill for years but for £7.99 on special I thought why not. This label seems to remain a reliable if fairly generic south Aussie red. Easy to drink. Wonder where the fruit comes from these days.
