  • Inaugural vintage of Guidalberto. 40% cab s, 40% merlot, 20% Sangiovese. New world style. Surprisingly vibrant on the nose, hazelnut, toast, blackberry, blackcurrant, wet leaves. A lot of energy on the palate. Medium plus flavour intensity, medium plus finish. The best performing vintage comparing to 04, 16 and 17, which generally use 60% cab s and 40% merlot. I do believe Sangiovese adds a little touch of Tuscan nuances.

  • This wine is coming to an end, it's starting to show more dried leaf notes and has softened quit a bit in the 2 years. It's entered it's pretty zone with cherries and mocha with notes of cassis and a really solid streak of licorice. Nice light chocolate notes frame the finish that lasts for a long time.

  • This wine had been properly cellared in a wine store's vault. Incredibly tight and tannic out of the bottle. After an hour the fruit was revealed, but the tannins were still in your face. Very fruity, lovely but tasted young. Saved 1-2 glasses' worth for the next day.

On the second day, the wine was a completely different animal, almost unrecognizable. The tannins had softened and the fresh fruit had receded to reveal head-spinning secondary characteristics of earth and dried fruit with good acidity to boot. Sweet and savory, medium+ bodied but intensely flavorful. These are things I love in wines, especially in Italian wines.

In my opinion the wine was just "good" the first night. You could tell that, beneath the in-your-face fruit and astringent tannins, there was something beautiful beneath the surface. That came to the forefront on the second night. I would strongly recommend a serious decant for this wine, and I very much regret drinking most of this bottle too
