Another great bottle, a bit less impressive than the last one. We made the mistake of decanting this for only 30 minutes. Great dark fruit nose, earth, lovely wood-fire smoke, nice acid levels, gentle tannins. I would drink these by 2022.

Decanted one hour ahead of serving. Atypical (at least for me) Cote Rotie, with the surprises starting with the color, a brighter red than I can recall seeing from this DOC. Powerful, complex nose that never stopped evolving. Fragrances of cherries, Asian spices, minerals and earth. Flavors of red fruits, with lively acidity and soft tannins. Both the fragrance and flavor gave way to darker fruits over the next hour, particularly blackberries. Juicy acidity throughout. Medium length. This wine grew simpler through the tasting cycle, i.e. from fragrance to flavor to finish. It was too much wine for our somewhat boring roasted chicken, but was fabulous with a creamy bleu d'Auvergne. I later discovered that it's unique style is quite deliberate, as I read that Cuilleron considers the Bassenon to be the most Burgundian of his Cote Roties. No comment on the price, at around $80. There are much better QPRs, but this is a unique wine.

Nicely complex nose with tomato, pepper, floral notes and some brett influence. The palate is well focused and has very good fruit. The brett became more prominent in the glass and while it didn't get to a level that put me off, it was concerning.

Bon mais manque de complexité. Pas de presse à mon avis.
