A beautiful ruby-red color. At first the nose has a very thin and green-stemmy character, but with a little air things start to develop! At first sour cherries, then slightly sweeter and deeper notes of black currant emerges alongside spicy pepper and a little “burnt out” smokey campfire. These notes reappear on the palate but with the savory notes on the initial attack followed by a refreshing mouthfeel of balanced acidity and tannin structure. Quite short finish but what’s there definitely delivers good quality!

Good, fresh and redfruited, some yougurt, nicely chalky, good value buy.

By the glass at Ganz wine bar, Madrid: A very tasty, relatively rich Mencia, that received full approval from my cabernet-centric wife.
