Mighty Mencia and the Val de Sil (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Low intensity aromas of a little black cherry with jubey raspberry underpin and a little rocky minerality. It's got juicy acid, quite softly textured tiny front of mouth grabbing tannins, the fruit a little muted but pleasant enough. Drink up for me though.

Very brooding nose. Dark cherry, raspberry, savoury perfume. A little meaty. In the mouth it's very crisp and lineated. Lovely freshness of fruit, and very savoury indeed with a slightly smokey component. Not complex or particularly expressive, but definitely characterful and tasty. Great example of Bierzo. Good value at AUS$26

Spicy on the nose but with a flush entry and then mineral, Mencia back palate. Needs some time to ease in, works it out at $15.
