Turned out to be a really nice bottle of wine. Started off a little funky with a very bitter finish that I really didn't enjoy very much, but by the 2nd night (recorked and left on counter), it was much, much better. Muddy red with quite a bit of bricking. Sweet cherries on the nose, but more savory on the palate with some red fruit, but plenty of leather and earth notes. Most importantly, the intense bitterness on the finish was completely gone. Thought this was a lost cause the first night but was pleasantly surprised on day 2. Maybe this has more staying power than I expected??

This definitely tastes past its prime. There is some fruit left, but the must and earth has taken over. I think it would have been better as a young and fresh wine. It doesn't have much of a nose left and the finish is short and leaves me with the desire for something... more.

This ATP bottling was wonderful. Great aromatics on the nose, rich, smooth, great mouth feel, but still with a nice streak of acidity that keeps everything in harmony! A little of the Old Vine "sweetness" clearly noticeable, long finish. Great varietal presence. The back label says drink by 06-08, but it's holding up very well indeed. I find most Ridge aging "estimates" to be very conservative, and this one is no exception.

(Ridge Carignane Buchignani Ranch) Slightly bricking plum red color with pale meniscus; earthy, dried berry, tart raspberry, sandalwood, smoke and green herb nose; tasty, tart berry, wild berry, mineral, baked berry palate with a touch of green herb; medium-plus finish 90+ pts.
