Surprisingly hard structure. I was expecting this to be quite soft. Dark red fruits try valiantly to support the high acidity and grippy tannins. Medium body. Medium length, straightforward. Drinking now, doubt it will improve.

Piemonte: Truffles instead of Turkey; 11/23/2023-12/2/2023 (Barolo, Barbaresco, Alto Piemonte and of course Alba): Every year it seems we see less and less dolcetto and yet for the most iconic producers they have held on and while financially make it would make more sense to go to Nebbiolo they note that it is both a question of where the vineyard is (not everywhere is for Nebbiolo) but then also the history of the place. Perhaps harkening back to one of my favorite stories from one of the producers who remembers selling cases of dolcetto with his father and giving away a bottle of the Barolo. So despite the recent disease infestation (which has required them to pull out and replant a number of vines and seems to be a losing battle) they are still quite focused on ensuring this wine continues to survive. I am happy for that. It’s a unique style but is quite interesting. Here the fruit is much more restrained in style. It’s less intense and almost more in the background and there’s a touch more tannin and dare I say balance to this wine. It’s not bright and immediate wine and yet it drinks quite nicely. Interesting.
