Much darker nose than the Giacosa next to it with more black cherries and some tar notes. It feels much more substantial but perhaps also less nuanced. Nice acidity on the palate with lots of tannic structure, red fruit, cherries, some spices, and forest notes. The finish is quite long. This is really good but not nearly as open and accessible as the Giacosa. 94-95+

Oh, my, this is drinking great tonight. I wouldn’t necessarily call this mature, but it is certainly showing well. Expansive on the palate, good acidity and just plain delicious. Glad to have more 🍷👍

The cork crumbled and I had low expectations but this shower well, similar to a bottle a few months back, with bright red cherry backed by some rose and medicinal notes. Lightweight with fine acidity that brings balance. Very good.

I agree the bottle variation on this wine is simply insane but this magnum was solid. A touch of brett on the nose but the palate is clean and the wine definitely shows maturity especially in the texture which is silty and layered. The fruit is in the red spectrum and there is a strong dose of crunchy minerals along with hints of licorice and rose petals. Finishes quite complex with dry tannins. Really very good but somewhat surprisingly, the ‘08 Cappellano and ‘06 Mascarello Monprivato were easily better.

(Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia) Just amazing how accesible this wine is. Nose of exotic spice, cinnamon, roses, old wood, cocoa. Nose is like a kalaediscope. Palate has such beautiful balance and purity. Wonderful earthy sweetness and concentration. Every time I have this wine I love it more.

Tet. Lovely nose, and a treat but still a little young.
