After decanting for a half-hour, we enjoyed this with some chacuterie in Notre Dame, IN. Beautiful color! The body is soft with some hints of lead pencil, dark berries, and licorice. The tone is very gentle and patient. The finish is decently long but there's is too little grip (tannin) for me personally. IMO, is a bit past the peak. Overall, I was disappointed given the pedigree of the grapes.

Slow ox for 3.5 hours. Gave a try - still a bit tight. Into the decanter for an hour.
Nose is pretty deep and brooding. Black fruit and black earth. Palate hits with more of the same, and some overipe plum. Developed some secondary notes (leather; black tea) as it was open longer. Finish still has quite a grip.
Have had some really good experiences with 2006 Napa wines recently, so thought this would be a good one to pair with a Wagyu strip and watching the Cubs in NLCS Game 1. Overall would say that this still has plenty of life ahead of it, and if I had another bottle would wait 3-5 years. Alas, I got this on a closeout a few years ago and figure now was the time. C'est la vie.

After decanting for an hour, the tranquil smoky cedar nose dressed with cassis had calmed you down to enjoy the wine. Although the body is not a juicy style, already soften enough to drink with some hints of lead pencil, dark berries and licorice. The tone is very gentle and patient. Lasting is also impressively along and provoke mouth watering. Now is the peak of this wine. I am really blessed to experience this great wine from one of the most prestige vineyards.
If you like smokey dark chocolate then this is your wine otherwise stay away and spend your money on something else. I am with the latter group. Right off the pop the amount of smoke in this wine is astounding almost like standing next to the grill at a BBQ joint. We decanted for 1 hour but ti wasn't enough. Smoke and chocolate dominates. I struggle to find the fruit and a bit of ripe plum buried under all the ash. Tannins are still very tight.
This wine could settle in nicely in another 4-5 years but I don't have great hope for it. Not my kind of juice but others may like it.

Fabulous example of a Napa To Kalon cab. Had it with a rib eye and great double cream Brie, and found it absolutely superb. Dark purple. Blackberries, cherries. Opened 2 hours before drinking.
