Four hours in the decanter, then back in the bottle to be enjoyed over the next six hours. Elegant and complex, performed very well with food and great pleasure on its own. Hope I have the strength of will to wait a few years for the next one.

Piedmont tasting: Neck-in-neck with the Cascina delle Rose at first but pulled ahead with air. Agree with a previous note that said this had both breadth and depth. Layers of dark red fruit that had an ethereal and silky texture, but so discreet at the same time. One of those haunting wines and my favourite by far on the night.

Medium+ nose intensity with notes of red fruits, cherry, roses, spices. Medium+ acidity and high tannin. Tannin is fine and not grippy. Can drink now or cellar for improvement. Still in infant stage and youthful. Was surprised that Nebbiolo grapes this young yet ready to drink.

Roagna Horizontal 2017 Part 1 (Yan Ting): Blind, pnp. Lots going on, rose, cherry, hint of game, surprising approachable on the palate yet carrying the density and weight. My favourite amongst the Barbaresco flight.

A pretty radiant, shining wine; it opens up immediately, in a giving, harmonious way. Also in 2017, the Pajè possesses dimension and a certain completeness. Fully in balance and vibrant. Very fine tannins and soft textures meet a trademark red fruit (cherries, mixed berries), red rose and spice, with a distinct inner sweetness. Silky textures support the early drinking pleasure. There is an impeccable lift, especially in the context of the vintage. A real beauty already today.
