Wet old wood nose. I was going to say dull, with all the interest (I like some fruit) gone but it opened quite quickly with an hour or two in the glass. Dry woody finish (long). Pleasant, and we very happily continued with it but, please, drink up - this is going nowhere.

Settled and improved after a couple of hours in the decanter and was a pleasant sipping experience with a silky, smooth texture that made it enjoyable to drink. The initial fruit receded and left a pleasant woody taste.
Not great but not bad.

I have to agree with other reviewers that it is not an overly complex or evolving wine (from opening to end of bottle). I appreciate the dictum to serve it slightly chilled. I disagree that it won’t go much further. As someone who has ‘cellared’ it in what is virtually the bottom of a closet for the last 14 years, including a transitional stint on the deck (albeit, under wraps) due to a reno started but interrupted by a major family illness - yes, there was snow involved), unlike the ‘04 Gevrey Chambertin that I had the other night (a poor cork and was spoiled), I found this wine silky in its introduction, dry in its finish and more than likely to go past the 2023 that people seem to be projecting for it (especially if they have a proper cellar for it). So yes, not as stellar as some of my ‘cellared experiments have been and maybe a little too subtle for my older tastebuds to appreciate its more hidden notes but, maybe its true test- I keep going back to my glass to savour another sip.
