Decanted three hours. Attractive nose with violets, black fruit and tobacco leaf coming through. The wine is full bodied, layered and concentrated with a long finish. But it’s also a bit sweet and heavy reflecting its 15.1 percent octane levels. Hard to say whether this settles down further with time. While I can see why some love this, at least on this night it didn’t hit the right note for me.

Garth brought this to dinner at Melograno's. Perfumy nose, rich opulent red and black fruit, hints of sweetness. Minerality and a long finish. Otherwise consistent with my previous note.

Brought to our Philly wine group dinner. Very dark garnet bordering on black with a crimson edge. Reasonable well balanced though definitely fruit forward. Blackberry, black raspberry jam, cassis, with evergreen oriented forest notes. Nicely complex and rich. I do find the Dr. Crane Cru to be the most attractive of the single vineyard crus made by Paul Hobbs. Just a bit more complex and elegant than the others.

Similar to prior notes after a 2 hour double decant; outstanding & consistent, drink or hold
