Neighbourhood gang late night at Maison Dakota. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of earth, slight mushroom, graphite pencil lead, blackcurrant, blackberry. Developed. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), nicely integrated high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of tertiary mushrooms, earth, graphite pencil lead, blackcurrant, blackberry, tobacco lead, dark herbs. Long finish. Very good quality. Such a classic and a delight to drink.

Healthy leftover from last night generously brought by a friend. This has to be my surprise of the year! Bricking colour. Old library, mushroom, may be a hint of camphor on the nose. Darker fruit, balsamic notes, Maggi beef stock. Ferrous notes too. Some green notes on the palate that bring freshness to the finish. Right away you perceive the incredible poise and get a sense that this is sitting perfectly in that area of maximum complexity where tertiary development is evident yet there is still vigor, lift and no obvious decay. Only the slightest trace of tannins left at the back-end.Classically made Bordeaux at age 30. The surprise here is the vintage which does not rank as a top vintage let alone a middling one. Presumably the terroir and traditional winemaking on display. Tremendous value for the asking price in secondary markets. If one has this or sees this I would start to drink now as I do not see this package getting more complete with lots of additional bottle aging.

not all showy, but i thought it upstaged the 10 other wines on show. a wine to be drunk and not merely tasted. a wine of quiet contemplation. a throwback to a time in Bordeaux that is forever lost. so hard to find these off vintage bordeaux, and this was a rare treat.

Ash, leafs in decay, soft plummy, figgy fruit, blood and ferous notes. No tannines, tender and transparant, a respectable grand lady at the final phase of her drinking plateau. Pretty good effort, considering the vintage.
