  • Drank with my parents on their 49th wedding anniversary (1967 marking the year they met, 50 years ago). This was opened at noon and stood up to rest in the cellar until it was poured at 7pm. No formal notes, but while the wine was drinking enjoyably, it was fairly soft and quiet throughout. The aromas offered nice softly expressive red fruits and just the slightest hint of an older wine. Fairly quiet though. Palate texture was a little old and gritty, but for the most part felt quite a bit younger than it is, and showed soft fruit notes with just the slightest hint of some old books. Finish was similar, with just the slightest bit of drying tannins present. Overall a fine wine, but this particular bottle was likely better a number of years back and is growing tired today. Fairly nondescript, really.

  • Nose: fragrant blackberry, dried blueberries, sage and leather. Touches of subtle cocoa and clove. Gorgeous florals (violets) once open as well. Palate: fully resolved but well sructured and taught. Black/blue fruit is remarkably persistant with dried blueberry and blackberry fruit leather. Subtle spice and wood note as well. Finish: Blackberry, sage, thyme and nice acidity.

For me this was nicer than the VCC the night before as it was more polished and elegant. Bottom neck fill, this bottle was as good as they come i am sure.

  • Fading, but still enjoyable. Elegant. Remarkable considering the vintage.
