A rugged Barolo that is mature and maybe missing a bit of depth. Ruby color with a mature orange/brown rim. The nose is filled with tar, wet cigar, cinnamon and red fruit notes. A lovely mature sweetness to the fruit. Tactile and kind of dirty finish. Just a bit hollow. Good and ready to go. (91)

Tasted next to the 2000 vintage of this wine and we, at first, thought this was over the hill.
Promising aromas of tar, rose petals and stewed red fruit were unfortunately mixed with a stench of soy sauce/hoisin. No acid or tannins to speak of. Read other reviews AND enjoyed the 2000.... and yeah, flawed bottle.

5 hours slow ox. Black and red cherry notes, some plum, black truffles, sweet Oak. Very smooth. Some bricking at edge but beautiful at core. 20 second finish. Not sure it stands out as unique in any particular way, but it is really well made wine with all elements in excellent balance.

Big firm tannin and a spicy finish with balsamic reduction; this really opened up after 2 hours becoming exceptionally savory. Currently at peak maturity, although this wine may last another 5 – 6 years. Baked plums, road tar, black pepper & licorice. Brick red and cloudy (beginning to brown) and maybe a bit heavy on the French oak, which is now converting to cedar, which I appreciate, but it’s starting to overpower everything else. Pair with black olives / garlic / anchovies; pasta Puttanesca anyone?

PnP. This bottle is magnificent. Sappy, resiny and savory. Black cherry fruit. Tannins are present, but not obtrusive. Oak in this bottle is nicely integrated. Balanced and long. Impressive. Plenty of life in this bottle.
