  • A little darker than the 2001 Ruchottes consumed earlier this week. Both bottles needed an couple of hours to come out of their shells. No oxidation here, smooth, caressing white Burgundy. Cellared since original release.

  • Lovely -- the reason one used to age white Burgundy. Evolved but still fresh with complexity, minerality, just a touch of butter plus Ramonet mint, lightness on the palate (maybe not rich enough for some palates), nice underlying acidity, still good nervosity and acidity. Cellared since original release and worth the wait.

  • A very nice bottle of Ramonet Chassagne 1er. My notes indicate the last bottles of this wine were drunk in '08/'09, and I was slightly underwhelmed. I half expected this bottle to be oxidized, but was very pleasantly surprised to find not only a drinkable wine, but a very pleasing one at that. The color gave initial concern, being slightly golden. But the first whiff shed any fear of oxidation. The nose offered honeysuckle, a hint of acacia blossoms, and the subtle Ramonet mint notes. What was most pleasing was the acidic lift of the wine, immediately present on on the nose. The wine touched all corners of the mouth, and had an unctuous quality I don't typically associate with Chassagne. The acidity was harmoniously balanced, and really completed the wine. The only nit is that the finish is ever so truncated, but given my limited expectations opening this bottle, I won't complain! Much better than the previous two bottles, and reinforces the travesty of premature oxidation--this wine benefited from being lost in the cellar for several years.

  • This medium gold wine was tasted unblinded at the Vintage Wines, Ltd. wine bar. The nose show moderately intense aromas of flowers, flint and citrus peel. Light-to-medium-bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and well-integrated alcohol. The flavors mirror the nose. The middle palate thins a bit and the finish is only short-to-medium in length, albeit with decent crispness. While certainly enjoyable, I was expecting more from this outstanding producer. Drink now-12/14.
