  • Plenty alive and show plenty of punchy, savory Mourvèdre character. Plum, leather, game, and a bit o’ stank on the nose—not brett but a brief dalliance near the barnyard. The palate in mostly resolved, but not so much as the wine is featureless. Plum, blackberry compote five spice, meat, and tiled earth on the palate. Any sense of cooperage has knit with the wine. And there’s energy here; not young Iverson, but that silver-haired dude pushing 70 with the knee brace who drains trey after trey and steals the ball from you every time you move up court. I can envisage giving this a few more years, but at 20 years what do you want? Darned good bottle with lamb sirloin with herbs, green olives, and garlic. To be honest, if presented with well stored bottles, I’d buy 4-6 to enjoy over the next couple years. What a treat. Caveat sipper: decant for sediment—there was a bunch.

  • Drank this wine w/David Lentine. Started out musty and even corked smelling but came around nicely in the end.

  • Although Mourvedre is almost always used as a blending grape, I thoroughly enjoyed a bottle last night with grilled pork chops. Deep , dark purple with some red . Nice, long nose with definite cherry fruit. The minerals and coffee-traces were a nice balance with the grilled meat. Not overpowering or hot for a 14.3 % wine. Love the fact that Tablas Creek provides an opportunity to try several low production, single varietals to experiment with, but this wine stands up well on its own and I will now have to decide when to drink my last 2 bottles. I think it is at, or near, its peak.

  • A little disappointed in this wine - a bit sweet and one-dimensional. Still some prominent tannins on the finish. Nicely balanced with some good acidity and a decent drinker but I expected more from Tablas Creek.

  • Good Rhone style wine, but I kept thinking why didn't they blend it with Grenache and Syrah. The Mourvedre had some trouble standing on its own. There was appropriate acid and tannin, but it could have used more fruit.
