More savoury than the 2012 and with a bit more personality. Still ruby colour, though fading. The nose is a bit close, but very deep: there seems to be lot to discover here, but it needs time. The fruit is a bit developed, there is some red cherry, redcurrant, cranberry, but they are all somehow dried, no more fresh. Milk chocolate, vanilla and mushroom complete the picture. However in the mouth I found it more vibrant than the 2012, with more acidity despite the age, polished tannins and good body. The aftertaste is quite long, with fruit and oak flavours (the latter has well) still showing well.

Syrah vs. Shiraz (Cellier Wine Shop, Athens, Greece): Probably the best of the 3 syrah-dominated Avantis bottles. This is co-fermented with a small percentage of viognier. Dark ruby-garnet. Chocolatey and raisiny nose, somewhat port-like with berry jam, chocolate and sweet spice alongside scents of violets. Med+ bodied with jammy fruit, soft tannins and long aftertaste. Probably at peak.

Oinorama Wine Fair 2012; 3/17/2012-3/18/2012: (tasted at oinorama) The nose is nice and dense with peppers and cinnamon over sweet fruity notes. In the mouth it feels very ripe, sweetly perfumed that ends in a medium aftertaste. A nice effort with a good price too

Dionysia wine fair: (tasted at Dionysia) Ripe cherry color. Weak nose, hidden fruit, too shy for such a fresh wine. The palate is better, fuller, the viognier comes out more, with peppers staying in the background. Short to medium aftertaste. Maybe it will get better after a couple of years. Given the hype around this wine, I was expecting more.
