Rich and demonstrative, labelled at fully 15% alcohol, Cotat's 2009 Monts Damnés has hardly evolved since I last tasted it the better part of a decade ago. At its most expressive three days after opening, it wafts from the glass with aromas of honeycomb, candied citrus peel, ripe gooseberries, petrol and Angelica. Full-bodied, textural and satiny, with an enveloping, off-dry core of fruit that's underpinned by lively acids, it's long and heady. The right culinary pairing is key to realizing its full potential.
