  • 5+ minutes removing the cork with 3 devices - top half crumbled but I was able to get it out with only 2 small cork bits into the wine. Decanted, tight,, so Vinturi for the 1st glass. This has aged well, I'd give it an 88 and some of the flaws mentioned in reviews over 10 years ago have gone away. Other than the cork, no age issues (perfect color, no sediment). Fruit and cherry, and tannins (but zero crystals). Light, like a Burgundy should be.

  • Deep ruby color; pleasant aromas of fruit (cherries, currants, raspberries) and wood. Ripe, mouth-coating tannins, due in part to aging in oak barrels, in part to the maturity of the grapes.

This Bourgogne is so well-balanced it can be enjoyed at present, but it could also be cellared for several years. Serve with red meats, pork and creamy cheeses.

    About Domaine Faiveley:

Founded in 1825, Bourgognes Faiveley has been handed down from father to son for over 175 years. As the sixth generation to take the reins, François Faiveley manages, with equal amounts passion and competence, the largest family domaine in Burgundy. Methodically reconstructing vineyards fractured by French inheritance laws, Bourgognes Faiveley today owns more appellations in their entirety (monopoles) than any other domaine in Burgundy.

Faiveley’s wines are supremely clean and elegant: definitive examples of Pinot Noir. Above all they have richness and breed, the thumbprint of a master winemaker.

  • Favorite base burgundy at the moment. Best brought out by some food. Not overly complex but fruit driven, round and satisfying- especially for the price. Compared with a 2007 Muzard Burg and was preferred even though both seemed a bit lean and had some green characters.

  • Not a deep robe, showing maturity at the disc; sweetish, unappealing licorice, cherry and mineral notes on the nose that I often associate with West Coast Pinot; similar on the palate with sharp acidity. Inelegant, light on its feet, unappealing. Dilute finish. Wouldn't buy this again at any price. Really, Faiveley?
