Community Tasting Notes (6) Median Score: 90 points

  • Last bottle of a case and a half. Seems to have mellowed significantly as while the smokey aroma is present, it is now very much in the background. Very enjoyable wine with a lean texture, great balance, and dark fruits with earth and spice. 91+

  • Drinking great right now. Smokey/charcoal aroma is still present, but doesn't dominate. Great flavors of red and dark fruits, earth and spice. Medium body, silky texture, nice balance, seamless and harmonious. Without the smoke , this would continue to be a 91-92 pt. wine for me.

  • Another nice bottle - lots of dark fruit with some spice and smoke/charcoal. Smooth, juicy texture, nice balance and an interesting, medium finish. The smoke element seems to have declined over time and now I think it simply adds some character and complexity to the finish on the wine.

  • Exactly like a prior bottle. Great with smoked BBQ pork ribs. It is better with food - especially a smoked meat.

  • I have enjoyed many vintages and a great many bottles of Londer wines dating back to the 2004 vintage. I was hesitant to order this vintage due to the well-documented issue with smoke, but also felt Larry and his team would deal with it as well as it could be done. The nose was actually very nice with red and dark fruits, some spice and just a hint of smoke. On the palate the wine is very well balanced with a silky smooth and slightly lean texture. Decent depth of flavor in spite of probably having been heavily filtered. The smokiness is apparent on the medium finish, but does not overpower the fruit. Seems almost like someone added a bit of smokey paprika to the wine. While not typical, I actually enjoyed it, and think it is going to be a terrific wine to pair with smoked or grilled meats. Without the smoke, I would give it a 91+. Kudos to Londer for producing such a good wine in such terrible conditions.
